personal space...or the lack thereof
sorry for the lack of posts. i really don't have much to say though. so i guess i'll just update with a little rant i've been saving up... enjoy! :)

chinese ppl can be SOOOOO pushy! omg!
i mean...i think cuz they're so used to cramped spaces - several families living in the same house, lots & lots of bldgs squeezed into a small city, etc. - that the concept of personal space is totally lost on them and shoving and pushing is just a totally normal way of getting where they need to go. but to westerners...it's SO rude! not even an apology for trampling over your shoes or shoving you into the shelves at the store so that you yelp out in pain...or drop the stuff you were carrying...
which reminds me! i went to the bank to withdraw some money from the atm one day and there were like 3 machines, 2 of which were in use. I went up to the available one, but it said something like "out of order" (in chinese...so i didn't totally understand it)...so i stood back to wait. Then some other guy comes and walks right past me to an ATM that just frees up that second. And i'm like "DUDE! hello! there's a line!"...but i wasn't quite sure how to say this in chinese...so i just stood there like an idiot and decided to wait for the next one. Another ATM frees up, so I go over, but it also says something like "out of order" or maybe "temporarily unavailable". who knows. Anyhow i step back and notice another guy's come to wait (and he saw me check the ATM and come back to line)...well, after a minute or so, he walks past me to the same machine and i guess it's working cuz he does his transaction. And i was TOTALLY miffed! I mean, OBVIOUSLY, i was waiting for an ATM and VERY obviously, i was there before him. So he could've TOLD me it was working, instead of cutting in front of me! Man...i wish i knew enough chinese to tell someone off...cuz i totally woulda at that point! HMPH. but anyhow. i finally was able to get to an ATM and make my withdrawal but that experience gave me such a bad impression of chinese people...or maybe just taiwanese people. whatever. It was majorly inconsiderate!!
