asian or caucasian?

I just can't tell anymore.
I've seen many people here with blonde hair and pale skin and assumed they're caucasian, only to find out upon closer inspection that they're asian!!! This penchant that all non-caucasians (i use Michael Jackson as the ultimate example of the wannabe white who's non-asian & non-caucasian) seem to have for looking more white is very disturbing. It's as though we really are conceding that whites are superior cuz we want to imitate them so much. I mean, not only are all the asian cultures becoming "Westernized" (which is just another word for becoming more white), but they wanna LOOK white too. (You could say that asians have traditionally always valued pale skin, but blonde hair??)
I'm truly disappointed. Whatever happened to Asian Pride and China being the center of the universe? Well...maybe it's just the japanese, korean & taiwanese...I should probably not generalize across ALL asians. :)

man! i thought that i had a problem with conflict-avoidance, but now i see where i got it from and i MUST say that Taiwanese ppl (i don't think it applies to all chinese ppl) have it MUCH worse! it's sooooo annoying!!

here's an example. i called up this girl answering her ad looking for an English tutor and ask her if the position's still available. she doesn't pick up, so i leave a v/m. she doesn't get back to me, so i follow up after a day or so with another call and finally reach her. she says she's still looking for a tutor but she's currently on her way to work so she'll call me when she gets there. i wait a day or so (i don't think it took that long to get to work!!), and figuring that maybe she just forgot to call back...and being persistent and a little desperate for some extra income, i called her again. She said she was busy...i forget what the excuse was this time...and would call me back. And that's when i dropped it and figured she just didn't really want a tutor anymore or didn't like the sound of my voice or something. But really, would it have been that hard to say that in the first place?? or just lie and say she's already found someone. it woulda saved me the time and effort and it's not like i woulda been devestated or anything.

but i guess maybe it's cuz they think ppl can't take rejection. after all, that's why suicide's such a big problem in taiwan. (it's so bad that they actually have signs saying something along the lines of "Just say no to suicide"...i just HAD to point it out to everyone who visited me). I can't tell you how many sig others jump off a building when their bf/gf breaks up with them. Apparently, handling rejection is not part of the taiwanese culture. and of course it all makes it on the news (don't even get me started on the 31 news channels in taiwan...that air the "news" all day).

Oh yeah. All this talk reminds me of a news story from a while ago...about a suicidee (is that what you call them?) who jumped off a building and landed on some other guy. And the suicidee survived but the other guy died. Isn't that such a sad story? Man. I hope the suicidee was convicted of something!
